Northern Thailand- Chang Mai

After staying Bangkok for 3-5 days we can travel to Northern Thailand- Chang Mai.

There are a couple of options of transport:
Bus: Departing from Bangkok a comfortable 1st-class air conditioned bus with toilets and 42 seats. These leave every half an hour from 6.45 am. The price roughly costs 530 baht which works out at approx £10. Not a bad price considering it is a fair old trek taking 10 hours.
We will need to use the Chang Pheuak Bus Terminal Terminal ( 5321 1586; Th Chotana) this can be found by riding a tuk-tuk to the Chang Mai Arcade terminal.

Train: Rapid trains leave Bangkok's Hualamphong station daily at an early start of 5.50 am so no lie in for Ben on that morning. In fact we may want organise a hotel nearer to the station for easy access the night before we plan to leave Bangkok. A 2nd class sleeper could be an feesible option again as we may want to catch up on a few Z's after a early start. This would roughly cost 391 baht (£7!) and is scheduled to arrive at 7.45pm which makes it 14 hour journey (the DS's may have to come out then :)
We will have to book the train in advance especially if we want a sleeper, this could be done when in Bangkok.

Compared to the bus, the train may be an cheaper option with more comfort to sleep. However as we have used the train already we may want to try and see another side of Thailand transport the Motor way's.

Hotels: There are many fantastic accommodation options to choose from in Chang Mai which are well within in our £15 daily budget.

Oooo Nice http://www.centralhotelsresorts.com/cdc/cdc_default.asp £35 for all 3 of us. 4 star roof top pool, gym etc. Full works. Would be very very nice.

Possible Options:
Family business hotel, friendly welcoming atmosphere
Riverside Cafe serves Thai food.

Novotel Mercure- (see picture)
3 star hotel roughly work out at under £10pp a night

This 2 star hotel is situated of right next to the night market. Also there is a Starbucks next door. Good facilities including a swimming pool and wifi at a good price.

As we are in Chang Mai for approx 5 days we may want to stay in a couple of hotels in different parts of the city for a range of experiences.

Change Mai has lots of attractions to see and Activities to participate in especially for backpackers like ourselves.
